I don't think is vector format. It seem like they can generate something according to the current graphic. I have no idea. But it seem promising :)

Hi there, I agree with you, the first option is something that you need to wait for N years ... I will go for javascript in this case. But I also not really good in that! Haha...

This is fairly old news, this technology came out last year.

There are multiple pieces of software that do this, as well as a few online services.

One of the more popular version is Liquid Resize:

Just look up the term "content aware resizing". There is a free site online that will do content aware resizing but I don't remember the address...it was some web 2.0 type name like resizr or something like that.

I worked for one color correction and retouching studio. There was a Photoshop plugin that helped making complicated masks. This plugin had price about $6000 :) so I think this software will be much expensive. However this is a great idea for web images. Currently I am front-end developer and often I have the problem with the different proportions of the images. I use the crop method for now, but now I have some inspiration to create something like this :)
I think there are two ways for implementation in web - first this could be added as a browser support, but as I see the normal resizing in the most browsers, I think this won't be implemented soon :). The second way is with JavaScript, but I have absolutely no idea how this could be implemented.
